Bunker Oil Pollution Damage

The Bunkers Convention provides a liability and insurance framework for pollution caused by oil carried as fuel on board ships.
Guatemala's treaty status
Guatemala is not listed as a Contracting State to BUNKERS 2001 in the IMO treaty-status publication of July 2026.
Availability of a Guatemalan Bunkers Convention Certificate service must be confirmed with the competent authority before preparing an application.
CLC 1992
Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage
In force for Guatemala
CLC covers liability and insurance for pollution damage from persistent oil carried in bulk as cargo. Guatemala acceded on 2 August 2016; entry into force followed on 2 August 2017.
Insurance and certification
Ships carrying more than 2,000 tonnes of oil in bulk as cargo must maintain insurance or other financial security and carry the corresponding Article VII certificate.
Confirm current forms, accepted insurers, insurance evidence, fees and issuance procedures with the competent Guatemalan authority before submission.
