Registration and flagging, recreational craft, seafarer certification and Flag State services under the Guatemalan flag.
Service 01
Vessel Registration & Flagging
Registration establishes an eligible vessel under the Guatemalan flag. Flagging follows registration and inspection, assigning the flag together with the rights and obligations attached to it.
Registration is available for newbuilds and for vessels transferring from another registry, subject to technical, safety and documentation requirements.
- Regular registration.

- Special registration for a delivery voyage or for scrap.
- Bareboat-in registration.
- Mortgage registration.
Application forms and the documents required for each type of registration are provided on request. Submit the completed form together with the supporting documents for the vessel and the applicant.
Flagging follows registration and inspection. It assigns the national flag and the rights and obligations that come with it, and the resulting certificate carries a verification code.
Service 02
Recreational Craft & Yachts
Yachts and other recreational craft in private or commercial use may be registered under the Guatemalan flag where the applicable requirements are met.
- Private yacht registration.
- Commercial yacht registration.
Requirements depend on the craft, its intended use and its operating area, and cover documentation, safety equipment and survey.

Service 03
Seafarer Certification
Certification and endorsement services support seafarers serving on Guatemalan-flagged vessels, in line with applicable international standards.
- Seafarers’ endorsement.
- Certificate of competency.
- Renewal and revalidation of issued certificates.
The application forms and the documents required for the issuance of seafarer certification and endorsements are provided on request. Requirements for renewal or revalidation may differ from those for first-time issuance.
Service 04
Flag State Inspection & Certification
Flag State inspections support the compliance of Guatemalan-flagged vessels with applicable safety, security, crewing and environmental requirements.
Inspections are carried out by the administration’s surveyors or by approved Flag State inspectors. They cover verification of statutory documentation and a general examination of the vessel’s structure, machinery and equipment, together with inspection and operational testing of firefighting equipment, lifesaving appliances and safety equipment.
Owners and managers are assisted in addressing inspection findings, including in the event of a Port State Control detention.
